Her Royal Highness has a long held interest in dementia and she established a foundation to train health and social workers on dementia care many years ago.
Queen Sofia of Spain too, who was also a participant at the event, also has a foundation that gives considerable focus to dementia. Others at the event with an interest in the issue were Princess Takamoda of Japan and the First Lady of Chile, Cecilia Morel. Queen Silvia spent her formative years in Brazil and retains a close association with the country. She is fluent in Portuguese.
